Competence Statement
Students will learn about the general subareas of Psychology
at a
beginning level. Students will learn and understand
the basic
theories and concepts of Psychology, the scientific research
supporting Psychological theories, and how Psychology
is applied
to human problems. Students will demonstrate learning
through
quizzes, exams, and completion of research modules.
Learning Objectives
* Understand the Scope of Psychology, the various areas
in
which psychologists work and do research
* Know the Perspectives of Psychology and how different
perspectives address the same question
* Know and understand the Theories and Terminology of
Psychology
* Gain a basic knowledge of Psychology sufficient to be
prepared for advanced courses in Psychology
and/or
conduct conversations with others familiar
with
psychological theories and terms.
* Understand the scientific side of Psychology and how
research
is used to support psychological theories
* Understand the helping and treatment side of psychology
and how psychological theories are used
to help people lead
more productive lives.
* Gain the ability to use Psychology to understand relevant
events
in the media and your own life
