Professional Psychology Organizations
The American Psychological Association (APA)
APA is the oldest and largest organization of professional psychologists.
The APA sponsors and disseminates information
on psychological research and practices
and also is an active lobbiest for mental health
and behavioral science issues. In addition,
APA publishes many of the most important research
journals in Psychology.
APA Members often belong to one or more of APA's
Divisions, smaller groups interested
in specific topics (e.g., personality and social
psychology, group psychology, teaching of
psychology, social issues, etc.). The APA
Website offers many articles and informational
pamphlets of interest to students.
The Association for Psychological
Science (APS)
APS is a newer organization, it serves primarily academic, scientific, and
non-clinical
psychologists. The APS Mission is to "Promote,
protect, and advance the interests of
scientifically oriented psychology in research,
application, and the improvement of human
welfare." The APS "Psychology Links"
page is very comprehensive.
Local and
regional groups are the Minnesota Psychological
