General Psychology Learning and Evaluation
                      Projects, Quizzes, and Exams

I attempt to use philosophy and methods suggested by B. F. Skinner,  ideas which are
discussed in the Learning chapter of the textbook.
   Skinner advocated learning in small
steps and stressed the importance
of immediate feedback in the form of positive
reinforcement (or reward).
Along these lines, you will observe that there are many
quizzes, research
modules, and exams in the course.  However, most of these assignments
are set up to provide immediate feedback and rewards.

For example, chapter quizzes serve as a learning tool because you  receive your score
immediately and are provided both positive feedback
  for correct answers and feedback
about incorrect answers.  Both types
of feedback should increase your mastery of course
material.  Also,
Quizzes may be repeated if you wish to increase your score (see below).
In addition, the textbook Website provides 19 research modules covering  various topics
in the course.  Complete a module connected to the
chapter you are studying and you will
not only learn the course material
in an interactive format, but you will receive 10 points
when you
submit your assignment to the instructor.

Research Modules involve doing a PsychSim5 Tutorial and answering
the questions that pop up on some of the 20-40 screens as you move through the exercise.
(Note, you do NOT have to do "PsychSim Quizzes".)  Satisfactory performance

earns 10 points. You may choose any 13 modules from the set of 19  that are available
on PsychSim.  Most of the modules are interesting,
and you can choose whichever 13
modules you wish (thus, you may
skip several).  The only requirement is that you do
the modules at
the appropriate time by completing each while you are working on the
chapter with which it is linked.  Generally, the modules pop up in a new screen, move you
through about 20-40 screens of information and demonstartion, and are interactive
; and
if you are logged into the textbook website then your results (your responses)
will be sent
to me electronically.  So, make sure you are logged
into the textbook site before you do
the module (you will type responses as
you go along, and those will be available to me if
you are logged in).
Also, at the end the module may ask if you want to mail results to your
instructor - providing MY e-mail address there will make "double-sure"  that I get your results
(my e-mail is mark.stasson@metrostate.edu ).  How to do a PsychSim Module.....
(1) Go to the textbook web site ; (2) Log in; (3) Click on "PsychSim Tutorials" link; Use the
scroll bar on the left to click on the "psychSim 5: xxxx" exercise for the chapter you are working
on, where "xxx" is the name of the demonstration exercise; (4) the name of the demonstration will
appear in the middle of your screen, click on the name/link and the exercise will open in a new window;
(5) go through the 20-40 screens, follow along and answer any questions that are asked.

Quizzes are scored but also serve as a learning tool.   TAKE QUIZ #1 for each chapter
(the web site offers two for each chapter).  You should
read a chapter in order to prepare for the
quiz.  You may take a quiz by
going to the textbook website, logging in as a student, and selecting
the
quiz for your current chapter (select QUIZ 1).  Quizzes have no time limits.   You may use
your textbook while working on the quizzes.  Quizzes may be
repeated a second time if you do
not like your first score --  your first
and second scores will be averaged (repeat QUIZ 1).

Exams consist of multiple choice items and have time limits.  Each  unit exam covers three
chapters.  You should complete
all of the readings, quizzes, and research modules for the
Unit PRIOR TO
taking the exam.  E-Mail the instructor one week before you plan to  take the
exam to allow time to have your exam uploaded to the testing
site.  You may use your textbook
as a reference during exams, but do
not let it slow you down too much (you will lose points for
exceeding
the time limit).  You canNOT repeat exams.
